Women Helping Other Women means exactly what it says. It is our way of saying thanks and giving back to the community in which we live. It is also our way of honoring other women who have made a difference in our lives.
Mat James has always had a love for creating new and different taste. After 10 years of retirement she teamed with a friend, Becky Witwer, to start Women Helping Other Women, Inc. Mat is not a stranger to the baking industry as she had a bakery in Texas and shipped her original recipes all over the world. After seeing the effects of the mill closings on single moms, Mat and Becky, a sales and marketing retiree from Media General together founded Women Helping Other Women, Inc. a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation . Becky did not stay with the program, she left after two years.
We teach women needing to learn a skill to become self sufficient to help their families have a better lifestyle. Our help comes from the "Domestic Violence Center" or other shelters. If they show interest in learning the skill of baking, packaging and shipping they can become employees or pursue their own path. We hope we have given them the tools to a happy and rewarding life.
The bakery is operated without compensation by its founders. Bakery workers are paid, while at the same time, learning a trade. Profits from the sale of Women Helping Other Women products are used to fund scholarships. Some scholarships go to the women who come to work in the bakery, others go to high school graduates who may not otherwise be able to pursue their life goals.
All products are original recipes and are developed in our kitchen. We take a basic kitchen, add creativity, and produce award winning products.
People who purchase our products are assured of two things:
- They are helping us help others.
- Satisfaction is guaranteed or their money will be cheerfully refunded.
