The founder and board serve without compensation. A portion of the profits generated flow into a scholarship fund for the economically disadvantaged. Some scholarships go to the women who come to work in the bakery, while others go to high school girls who may not be able to further their education.

Heather Caitlin

" During the summer of 2006 I found myself in a shelter with my two year old daughter, $20.00 and a paper bag full of clothes. WHO Women gave me a job and a chance to start a new life. I received WHO Women's first scholarship and hope to get a degree in computer science. I also received a complete computer set up from WHO Women. I now have full time employment and am able to care for myself and daughter. WHO Women also gave me an interest free loan to secure utilities for my apartment. I was also blessed with valuable friendships that I will always treasure."

Heather Catlin - 2006 Recipient

WHO Women would like to say that within 12 months Heather Catlin's accomplishments were substantial. She was promoted to the Corporate Office of Bargain Barn, her employer, for training. Heather told her story at the Motivational Show in Chicago in 2008. Check out the YouTube video below.

Jordan England "I am a 2007 graduate of Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville, NC. Receiving a scholarship from WHO Women has meant a great deal to me. I feel that this organization is an asset to Yancey County and to each person that is touched by it. I am honored to receive the scholarship, and I hope in turn to give back to the community, just as this organization has helped me."

"Receiving your scholarship means more that you can imagine, because it helps me to pursue my chosen career. Every cent that I get goes toward helping me receive the education I want for myself in the field I have wanted for as long as I can remember. I have wanted to become a Pharmacist and your generosity by awarding me this scholarship will help desire to become a reality".
