WHO Women strives to improve the lives of abused women in Western North Carolina by providing training, employment, education and hope for a brighter future. Our company produces a variety of gourmet fruitcakes and gift baskets.
Women Helping Other Women, Inc. (WHO Women) a (501c3) corporation was founded in 2004 by women to help other women who find themselves in difficult situations. We offer training, education and employment to women who have had to seek refuge in a domestic violence center or other shelters. Our goal is to serve as a catalyst by offering help and hope along their way back to a productive life. The founder and board members work without compensation and proceeds go to scholarships.
Using original recipes, we take a basic bakery, add kitchen creativity to develop self esteem, emontional and physical health and produce quality goods. Our products are made in a small mountain community by women so appreciative for a new opportunity they go the extra mile in all areas of their work. Collectively we end up with AWARD WINNING PRODUCTS. Since 2005 we have shipped our products all over the country and beyond. We are both wholesale and retail and enjoy the support of Earth Fare Markets who carry our products in their upscale stores located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.
This year we are very pleased to be part of the Helping Hand Rewards program from Chicago. HHR is a marketing company dedicated to helping non profit organizations market their products. We will be present at the Motivation Show in Chicago in September in the HHR booth. Our first scholarship receipient will be speaking at the Motivation Show to share her story; in part, which follows.
"During the summer of 2006 I found myself in a shelter with a paper bag full of clothes, my two year old daughter and $20.00. With my self esteem completely gone and no where to turn Who Women gave me employment and a chance to start a new life. I was able to get a car and an apartment but didn't have money for the utility deposit. Who Women gave me an interest free loan and I was able to move in. Since my job with WHO Women was seasonal, I found pernament employment with a local grocery store as produce manager. I was also WHO Women's first scholarship receipient and hope to get a degree in computer technology. I will forever be greatful to WHO Women."
During the short years we have been in business we have helped many women by offering them employment, education and most of all regain their self esteem. Through their hard work and effort we have shipped our products all over the country and parts of the world.
We also work with Mentally Challenged Adults by giving them task such as folding brochures, inserts for shipments requested by customers, putting labels on bags, etc. They do many small tasks for us and are compensated for their work. This year, 2008, we will purchase candy for Gingerbread House for them to put together and decorate for display around our community during the Holidays.
